A race across the digital finish line
We’ve had a busy few months in the lead up to this year’s Redbrik Chesterfield Half Marathon, working on the PR for the event as well as managing the event’s social media channels.
The big day, which took place this Sunday, saw us head down to Queen’s Park in Chesterfield to get in on the action, including managing the media who were in attendance, and ensuring that the race’s social media channels were packed full of information for participants and supporters alike.
We wanted to keep everyone up to date with all the race action, so we kept ourselves busy filming videos throughout the day, including the exciting race start, filming the runners heading out of the park and capturing footage of the inspirational male and female race winners crossing the finish line.
These videos were broadcast on Twitter and Facebook, which meant we were able to maximise the audience they reached. And our efforts certainly paid off – the videos were viewed a total of more than 11,500 times on Facebook alone.
We were also on hand to answer people’s queries via social media in the run up to and on race day, which just goes to show how much people are using social media as a means of both communication and as a source of information.
It was fantastic to have played such a vital role in the event, which was one of the town’s biggest and most successful community participation events. More than 700 people from across the UK donned their running shoes to take part.
The race was held in aid of local and regional good causes, but primarily to support event charity partners – Chesterfield-based Ashgate Hospicecare and North Anston-based Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
Our client, leading estate agency, Redbrik, were headline sponsor for the 2017 event as part of a new five-year partnership deal and has the support of Chesterfield Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council.
Here is a taste of some of the videos we broadcast live from the race – we think you’ll agree it was a pretty amazing day!
