New trial offers hope during Tinnitus Awareness Week

New trial offers hope during Tinnitus Awareness Week

At the start of the month many of the HRM team were busy with Tinnitus Awareness Week (5-11 February 2018).

The week aims to raise awareness of tinnitus, a condition often described as a ‘ringing in the ears’ - but it can also be a whizzing, buzzing, hissing or another type of continuous noise, which affects approximately 6 million people in the UK.

Representing the leading provider of exclusive evidence-based treatments in the UK, we were pleased to be offering a message of hope during the week.

On behalf of our client, The Tinnitus Clinic, we released new findings following a trial conducted by the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research (NCRAR) in the United States.

The trial demonstrated that individuals treated with Levo Sound Therapy experienced a reduction in tinnitus loudness of more than 20 per cent, as well as a drop in tinnitus distress of more than a third, compared to those treated with the standard care therapy and a placebo.

New to the UK, this pioneering treatment sees an iPod approved for use as a medical device for the first time. It’s also the first time people can be treated while they sleep – something that can make such a difference for so many sufferers.

Levo is a really exciting treatment to be telling people about. In its severe form tinnitus can cause sleep loss, anxiety, depression and a significant reduction in quality of life, so to be able to offer a message of hope is really important.

Tinnitus Week was a great opportunity to raise awareness and understanding around the condition, but also to show that new trials and treatments are coming out all the time. We were pleased to be showing people that there is hope, and help is out there.
